In Training!

Getting Ready For The Big Ride

You may have been wondering if I’m actually preparing for the Trans-America ride in September! Well I have. After some extensive testing in Marin, Calif. of the two bikes I plan to use for the 3,200-mile journey, I headed to Europe in late April where I’ll remain until mid-August. Here I’ve been cycling as much as I can.

In May I took my Cervelo C5 Caledonia bike to France and cycled near my parents’ house in Provence for a few days, then up to Mont Ventoux for a bucket-list ride up that incredible hill (see photo above).

The route I took up Ventoux from my hotel in Crillion-le-Brave.

After Ventoux I headed up to Burgundy, staying in Puligny-Montrachet. I planned a great route that took in the famous vineyards and bike paths of this lovely region.

Cycling in Israel

I was lucky enough to be invited by my good friend Nir to cycle with him in Israel for a couple of days. He arranged an awesome bike, and with Tel Aviv as my base we headed out towards Jerusalem on Day One and then to Haifa in the north for Day Two. What a truly beautiful place to cycle; I posted pics on my Insta @xencyclist.

What’s Next?

I’m now back in the UK for June and July. I have a few days of cycling in the Lake District planned in early July, then a tour of the Isle of Arran in Scotland. I’ll post those trips once I’ve done them! Then in later July down to Cornwall for three days of long tours. I’ve been planning the San Diego CA > St Augustine FL route, and will post that here next. Onwards!
